Stomach cancer is usually aggressive and unfortunately it has become more and more frequent. The country with the highest incidence is Japan due to the strong correlation of this cancer with the diet we eat (smoked or salted foods). Seventy percent of gastric cancers occur in developing countries. Symptoms are often confused with those of gastritis (burning pain in the upper abdomen) and sometimes dark bowel movements (melena). Treatment in early stages is primarily surgical. It must first be examined via an upper endoscopy and later with an abdominal tomography, to determine the appropriate treatment based on the findings.
